WELCOME TO HENNOPS

Hennops

The Hennops Offroad Trails is one of the most popular and renowned 4×4 trails in Gauteng and is sited in a high mountainous section of the property with dongas, mud holes and other treacherous, man-made obstacles. The course covers some 200 hectares in an area that is also game-fenced and stocked with blue wildebeest, zebra, kudu, blesbok and other small game species. There is ablution facilities and a thatched lapa that can accommodate small functions.

Hennops Hiking trail offers the choice of 3 circular routes (2,5km, 7km and 11km) with overnight facilities for up to 18 hikers.

Hennops Picnic Spot is sited next to Hennops River itself and offer 2 swimming pools, ablution facilties and ample braai facilities for day visitors.

This is where the first picnic spot in Hennopsriver was established back in 1928 and the natural beauty includes the Hennops River flowing through a valley bordered by mountain ranges to the north and south.

In addition to these recreational facilties, other areas of the property are currently utilised for cattle grazing and irrigated crop cultivation. The overall environment with its striking natural beauty and abundant water lends itself perfectly towards nature related activities for either tranquility or thrill-seeking residents of the Johannesburg and Pretoria urban areas.

Hennops Offroad Trails

This trail is designed to enable any four wheel driver to experience the true pleasure of four wheel driving in conditions that will satisfy anyone from the first timer to the experienced driver.

For the experienced driver the trail lends itself to achieve ultimate performance with any 4WD vehicle over a wide variety of obstacles including mud-holes, steep rocky climbs, descents and dongas. We do need to leave something for the imagination so let’s not elaborate more on the obstacles !

For the not so experienced, tricky obstacles can be bypassed by existing tracks and service roads.

Herds of Zebra, Blou Wildebeest and Blesbok together with a wide variety of bird life and smaller animals can be viewed along the way. Also look out for the Zonkies !

The idea is to learn more about the capabilities of your vehicle as well as to become more confident with your vehicle’s fullest potential.

Hennops Hiking Trails

In the heart of busy Gauteng, virtually on the doorstep of both Johannesburg and Pretoria, hikers can now experience one of the few unspoiled nature areas at Hennops Hiking Trail.

The Hennops hiking trail consists of two day trails setting out from Hadeda Camp. At the beginning and end of both trails, the route meanders along the Hennops River before veering away into the surrounding mountains.

Two unique features on the trail are the river crossings – a suspension bridge and a cable car. There are interesting historical sites along the trail, amongst others an old field (veld) hospital used in the Anglo Boer war. Aspiring historians will enjoy seeing an underground cave where “Pruimpie” lived, traces of old settlements and the old dolomite mines and the ovens in which the rocks were heated to melt and extract the lime.

Apart from the 9 mammal species in the game camp, kudu thrives in this area and may be seen all over the farm. The indigenous tree along the river, the gorges and plateau areas makes this an outstanding area for bird life.
